Since its founding in 2003, the Jacobs Center has gained visibility through many interdisciplinary activities in research, academic and professional training, lecture series, and consulting. As a constituent School of the international Jacobs University, the JCLL incorporates academic and extra-curricular perspectives of students from more than 100 different countries.

Research at the JCLL focuses on the analysis of productive adult development and aging with a special focus on the work context.
 
The Jacobs Center pursues excellence in research in order to better understand the processes and conditions of productive adult development. To tackle some of the most challenging and important questions facing modern industrialized societies today, an interdisciplinary research approach has been institutionalised.
