CROSS – Competence Rotation Over Several Sectors: Kick-off to innovative continuing education

CROSS – Competence Rotation Over Several Sectors

August 28, 2017

This Monday, a future-oriented continuing education model for companies was started at Jacobs University. Daimler, Airbus and BLG are jointly providing experienced employees continuing education – accompanied by tailored seminars and workshops at Jacobs University.

The term “CROSS” stands for cooperation with external partners, collaboration between business and academia and for the interplay of theory and practice. The rapid transformation of the working world, digitalization and new technologies, such as the use of robots, are a challenge for many employees. New technologies require new skills - across specializations and companies.

A component of the integrative program is therefore a work shadow module to be completed by the participants at the respective corporate partners in order to gain insights in other structures and approaches. The second component of CROSS comprises two study weeks and one workshop at Jacobs University. In the first week, starting on Monday, the participating companies introduce themselves and their business models of the future. Themes such as “transformation” and “diversity” will be discussed and experts will present the latest findings gained in practical applications.

A significant objective of CROSS is for participants to learn to understand new technologies, apply new methods and use their knowledge to generate value at their workplace. “CROSS is an excellent example of the cooperation between business and academia”, says Prof. Dr. Arvid Kappas, Dean of Jacobs University. “I am pleased that three such well-known companies are forging new paths and thereby being an example for others”.
