It is designed to replace the static energy network with a flexible intelligent network that meets the new challenges, uses intelligent technology to network the actors in the energy turnaround, and makes the energy system more efficient overall. The project idea “enera” has received the Special Prize for Digitalization at the Handelsblatt Energy Awards.

Jacobs University is involved in the project through a workgroup at the Chair of Gert Brunekreeft, Professor of Energy Economics. Among other things, the team is developing recommendations for action for efficient implementation of the most innovative solutions tested in the project to implement the energy turnaround, with participation by 75 partners from academics, business, science, and politics.

“The planned close cooperation with the various industrial partners from the energy and technology sector enables us to discuss the essential questions regarding implementation of the energy turnaround with the actors affected and to develop solutions together with the industry,” says Marius Buchmann, head of the project group. Professor Brunekreeft is particularly pleased at the high international visibility of the project idea. For instance, a consortium around the Japanese “New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization” (NEDO) is preparing to cooperate closely with enera, along with the companies Mitsubishi, Hitachi, and NGK. Professor Brunekreeft underscores: “We are naturally pleased about this first great success and hope that further developments will be just as promising!”
