Summer Camp – discovering the world of technology in one week

Summercamp 2017

JULY 21, 2017

One week of university, one week full of workshops with exciting experiments, outings and discussions at an international level: from Sunday, July 23 until July 29, the Jacobs University campus will become a center for pre-college students from Germany and throughout the world. Approximately 100 pre-college students are taking part in the international Summer Camp, jointly organized by VDI, Verein Deutscher Ingenieure e.V., and Jacobs University. The objective of the Summer Camp is to inspire young talent to study and to raise awareness of global issues.

Half of the participants aged between 14 and 18 years come from Europe, USA and Asia and the other half from Germany. The Camp’s language is English, including for the workshops whose topics are extremely diverse. The contents range from renewable resources, physics in the popular culture such as comics, and nanotechnology through to intelligent data systems and their development. In the mornings, participants attend one of the workshops while the afternoons are free for other activities such as sport, excursions and culture. The students live together on Jacobs University’s campus in Bremen-Nord.

Inspiring young people to study the so-called MINT subjects – Mathematics, Information Sciences, Natural Sciences and Technology – is a key objective of the international Summer Camp. Europe’s largest professional association for technology and science successfully offered its first international Summer Camp for pre-college students in collaboration with Jacobs University last year.
